sounds like i could probably help you out then...you got some place in mind you wanna meet up to talk?
[ Jesse knows better than to talk specifics over a cellphone, even if his is an untraceable burner phone. In person is just less complicated. There's less to worry about and he's gotten pretty good at eyeing if someone's wearing a wire or anything like that. ]
Noted. See you twenty. I'm in all black-- you'll notice me. [Probably not for the reasons she realizes, but doppelgangers aren't exactly a first for her either-- she's just not aware of any in her own lineage. But her also not knowing her own lineage is something that pops up frequently. Also helps that she has no idea who her father is. Who knows what he's gotten up to.
So she shrugs on a black sweatshirt, hiding enough of the runic tattoos on her neck and wrists to not warrant any questions she doesn't want to answer. Her hair's down, hoody up, and she's wearing black jeans and boots-- like she said, all black. It's always worked well for her trying to lie low. Heading to the restaurant, she chooses a table and starts a lookout for him, just ordering a coffee for now.]
[ Jesse has no idea what he's in for. Actually, he kind of scoffs at the message at first because isn't all black, like, what people tend to wear when they're trying to hide or be less noticeable? It'll help him identify her, sure, or at least that's what he thinks. Little does he know he won't even take note of the outfit once he sees her face.
Jesse pulls a beanie onto his head, tugging on his black and gold patterned hoodie before he heads out. It doesn't take him long to make his way to the campus. He pulls his little red Toyota Tercel into the parking lot and cuts the engine, taking a deep breath before he gets out. He's not stupid enough to have any product on him, should this be some kind of set up, but he still scans the lot for anything suspicious or out of place before he walks up to the diner. Jesse pulls open the door and starts scanning the tables one by one when he finally gets to someone in all black. Her face is turned towards the window, so he doesn't get much of a good look, but she's the only one wearing the outfit she described over the phone, so he approaches.
When she turns to look at him, Jesse feels the blood drain out of his face. His mouth goes dry and he struggles for it not to actually fall right open. He feels weak in the knees and for a minute he's actually wondering if he's having some kind of fatal brain incident like a stroke or an aneurysm or something. He grabs the edge of the table just to keep from falling, managing to shove himself into the booth before his legs actually give way. All he can do is stare at first, not even able to find his voice to say hello. It's a flood of questions and emotions filling him so rapidly that he finds he can't express anything at all. Hopefully she talks first and takes the pressure off of him. Maybe he'll blink and she'll go back to not...looking exactly like his dead girlfriend. ]
[Well she spotted Jesse from a mile away at least, the sweatshirt definitely giving him away. She lifts her head to acknowledge she's the one he's looking for when she does turn to greet him. Only his reaction is... perplexing at best. He looks like someone just died. Her brows knit as she watches him carefully as he all but collapses across from him.]
Ugh, Jesse, right? [Her voice sounds a little different to what he's used to. Still a little flat and monotone, but there's a bit of a lilt, a softening of some syllables. When she talks more he might even hear a bit of a drawl on some of her vowels. It's hidden in there, but growing up speaking French and then going to school just outside of New Orleans had given her enough of an accent that she's spent years trying to hide.]
Your friend Badger told me I needed to come to you. [Specifically.]
[ He swallows hard, looking around the diner a little nervously. He has a twitchy sort of energy buzzing about him. He knows in his head this isn't Jane, but he can't help the way his heart skips a beat when she says his name. It's bringing a whole lot of memories flooding back and he can't stop staring at her. He catches himself, though, and quickly averts his gaze down to the table, affording her a glance every now and again. There's a hint of familiarity in her voice, but it's just different enough to solidify for him that this isn't Jane. She hasn't been resurrected somehow, magically. She's still cold and dead, buried in a grave somewhere. He spent weeks trying to find out where, but never could. Maybe that's part of why this feels so surreal. He'd never gotten that full closure of seeing her name carved into a headstone. ]
So you, uh. You know Badger? What exactly were you lookin' for?
[ Jesse glances up again, then gets quiet when a waitress stops by to take their order. He isn't really hungry, but he figures it'll be less weird if he orders something anyway, so he gets a side of fries with a Coke. At least it's something to pick at while they talk. ]
I wouldn't say I really know him. I moved into an apartment not far from his a few weeks back, ended up at a party. [Which isn't really surprising probably. She watches him though. He looks like he's going to be sick, and she doesn't really understand it. She has no way of knowing what's in his head, but she's here for a reason.]
I don't really fuck with the shit that he has. I'm on the lookout for a few things, but he said you sometimes go to Mexico? I could pay you good money to take me. I need to see someone. But I might also have a list of... rare items I'm on the lookout for, too.
[She pulls out a scrap of paper. There's some notes scribbled in French, but in a box in the bottom is a list. Some are more rare plants, some are a little more graphic like animal parts, and then at the bottom are two chemicals he is likely familiar with.]
Anything you can help with saves me time that I don't really have.
[ Jesse arches a brow when she mentioned needing a ride to Mexico. That's a new one. People asking for drugs or maybe some kind of black market goods are the more typical requests he gets. An escort to Mexico is something different. He's immediately curious. First of all, why can't she just get a plane ticket and fly down there herself? Or better yet? Drive right across the border. It's not like it's illegal, so long as you don't bring anything sketchy in or out of the country. Which, well. He's gonna need a little more information before he just up and agrees to that before he gets caught giving a ride to a drug mule or something. 'I didn't know' isn't a phrase that the cops typically buy into. ]
There a reason you need somebody else to take you?
[ Jesse puts a hand on top of the paper to slide it across the table in front of him, leaning over a little so he can scan what's written quickly. The French he has no clue about, except that it's definitely some language he doesn't understand. The list he can decipher, though a few of the items make his brows furrow. Hold up, wait a minute. ]
Hang on, animal parts? What in the Rosemary's Baby is all this about? I dunno. The chemicals, those I maybe know where to get but I'm gonna need a little more info on what exactly's goin' on here.
[ No offense, girl who looks like Jane, but he's picky about what he gets involved in. He's going to need a pretty please at least. Give him a reason to want to help. He's actually pretty easy to sway, especially if you know how to use those big, brown eyes to your advantage. ]
[She's not surprised by the questions. Anyone with half a brain would be asking her questions. Her requests aren't normal, even by the standards of the world he lives in. She's deducing enough about him though. He doesn't know any witches or at least they've never made themselves known to him. He's probably a skeptic, and he might think her crazy depending on exactly how much information she gives him.
And suffice it to say, Sophie needs him. She's always been one to keep her cards close to her chest as it were anyway, so she just sits back and gives him a look, a genuine answer following next.] I'm a short, little white girl. Do you think I'm going to get far in the outskirts of Mexico?
[Yeah, it's a little more complicated than just her crossing the border. She can't get on a plane. Not right now. Some of the ruins she has protects her from location spells, but things like borders and their own symbolisms make it tricky.
As for the ingredients, she licks at the top of her lick as she decides just what to tell him. Really she does look like she's a little lost and out of place, but without giving too much away and yet, more that goes unsaid.]
I need to meet a bruja. [Why she needs to go to Mexico. Why she needs those things on that list for herself. He should be able to fill in between the lines.]
